August 2015 was vacation time. A few days to visit Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and the Badlands in South Dakota. Then drive back through Wyoming and Montana to see Devil’s Tower and Little Bighorn. This would be a long drive but I was excited to drive through the Black Hills. And our son, who was beginning his sophomore year in college, wanted to spend the week with us in the car! So we left Boise to head to our first night in Casper, Wyoming.
The drive was great. We spent time at Independence Rock and thought of how the pioneers came across the Oregon Trail in the 1800s. We got to Casper that night and went to bed with the goal to be in the Black Hills the next morning.
That night I had one of the most vivid dreams that I can recall having. 3D, high-def. As if I was not dreaming but actually experiencing it.
In the dream I was in my office, attempting to get some work done. But then I realized that I was not doing that job anymore. I was still employed but working a different position. I did not know what that job was but I knew it was not my actual job title. I woke up and did not sleep much the rest of that night as this “dream” was a little too real for me to brush off as thinking about work while on vacation.
We pulled into Hill City, SD the next morning and had a great time that day driving through The Badlands and walking through Wall, SD. No dream that night. But the following night, the identical dream occurred!
As a Christian I truly doubted these were coincidences, especially because the dreams were 100% identical. There are no coincidences with God! This planted the seed in my mind that He was creating a new plan for my life.
I wrestled with this throughout August and September. And something new was added during this time period: an agitation in my spirit. I knew He was conveying three messages to me:
- God created EVERYONE in His image. We are all infinitely valuable to Him.
- His Son, Jesus, came to rescue EVERYONE. He paid the ultimate price for EVERY human being to make Heaven.
- It was time for me to do something to not just reach people, but to help them. He had blessed me with debt freedom and it was time for me to work His new plan.
Finally on October 1st, after much prayer and counsel, I took the first step and told my boss I was resigning my position. I had no idea what would happen after that but I knew I had to trust God with His plan. Instead of becoming unemployed, my boss created a new position for me. Less hours, less travel and not much less pay!
This freed me up to enroll in life coach school and earn my Certified Life Breakthrough Coach designation, and then create ConsumerDebtCoach.com to help others get out of debt and stay out of debt.
This is my “ministry”. I am not a preacher. But I want to show Christians and especially non-Christians that it is time to do what He is leading me to do. I want you to see a Christian who is willing to roll up his sleeves and walk with you to help create your unique plan to debt freedom. If you want to talk about Jesus, I will, but the choice is yours to initiate that conversation.
If you want to learn more about getting your debts paid off and establishing an emergency fund, please email me at Phil@ConsumerDebtCoach.com.
